Russell County Board of Education Notice of Destruction of School Records
Specific records to be purged are students’ records of services provided under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and who have now exited the District.
WHEN: March 31, 2021
These records of specially designed instruction for students identified with a disability under IDEA include records of assessments for a disability, records of services provided according to Individual Learning Plans (IEPs), and other supporting documents for the provision of specially designed instruction. These records are frequently requested by people and agencies such as the Social Security Administration who need documentation to verify attendance and educational services. Therefore, it may be important to have these records in your files for future reference.
Individual records pulled for destruction include those for students whose birthday was prior to August 1996, and other students who graduated, moved, or withdrew for the district prior to the 2016-2017 school year and was receiving special designed instruction at one time while attending school in the Russell County School District.
If this information applies to you or child, you may still request these records before the date they are scheduled to be purged which is March 31, 2021. Some older records have already been purged in past years and may not be on file with the District.
